This is a storybook for children on COVID-19. It was developed by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Reference Group on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings. The project was supported by global, regional, and country-based experts, but also parents, caregivers, teachers, and children in 104 countries.
'My Hero is You' should be read by an adult alongside a child or a small group of children. It is not encouraged for children to read this book alone without the support of a parent, caregiver, or teacher. It includes information on hygiene and safety routines, but also tips on how to deal with emotions that can arise from the current situation.
It is very important to remember that children look to adults for guidance on how to react to stressful events. If parents, caregivers, teachers seem overly worried, children’s anxiety may rise. Adults should reassure children that health, school, social services staff are doing their best to ensure that people throughout the country stay healthy and safe.
